Pastor Alfred Williams, Sr.

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall

I send, and who will go for us?”

  (Isaiah 9:6a)

Pastor Alfred Williams answered the call to the ministry in the fall of 1977.  Before starting New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Pastor Williams served as the First Assistant Pastor of the Bibleway Freewill Baptist Church.  A graduate of Manna Bible Institute and Christian Research and Development’s Biblical Counseling Program, Pastor Williams  worked diligently in Bibleway’s Evangelism, Christian Education, and Youth Ministry departments until the Lord led him to start New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in the basement of his home in January of 1990.  By July of 1990, the small congregation had moved to 1734 Ridge Avenue, and they have never looked back.  An extraordinary visionary, Pastor Williams has tirelessly worked in the church, often working alone, doing whatever was required to get the job done.

Pastor Williams believes that his favorite Bible verse encapsulates God’s purpose for his life:  “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” (Galatians 6:14)

Pastor Williams and his wife, Evelyn, have been married for almost 43 years.  God has tremendously blessed their union.  They have nine children, all of whom work alongside them at New Hope.  For the past 20 years, Pastor Williams and his family have made their home in the Mt. Airy section of  Philadelphia.
